Site News
10 January 2005
Site is alive, despite lack of updates on the news page. Updated the price list and fixed a few broken links on the video page and elsewhere. Will be updating the layout a bit, as the color scheme is a little outdated. Will also be adding a print style sheet, so printed pages look nicer. One day, will even spell and copy check the pages!

There has obviously been a complete site revision. I hope that everyone finds the site easier to navigate and overall more useful. New items have been added under Testimonials, Training Tips, and plenty of other spots on the website.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! We've switched web hosting companies, so there may be some minor issues with the site. Please email me when you notice problems so I may eliminate them.
Dave and I have gone through many of the older pages and corrected grammar, spelling, etc., making them much nicer than they were before. (Why didn't anyone email me when they saw anything wrong?) The lanner falcon pictures were updated, and are much nicer looking than before. I showed Dave how to update the breeder's notes page, so that should be getting regular updates.
Coming soon will be videos and sounds! We purchased a Nikon Coolpix 990 digital camera that will allow pictures to be added to the page much easier. It also can take short movies, so I can add those to the web page also. Dave wants to take a video clip of the baby birds while they are being fed, so that you can see the difference in the eating habits between families of birds. For sounds, we are going around with a tape recorder, and getting some of the more interesting bird calls. We've gotten the barn owl and the pied crows talking so far. I'll make mp3s of the sound files that should give you a good idea of what the birds sound like.

A few updates now, a few more coming. The chances of us obtaining any sort of high-speed Internet service are close to nothing at the moment, and that means that the chances of us restoring the live video feed are near zero. I've removed the live video information from the page (but it may one day make a comeback). Pricelist has been updated. To be updated are the lanner falcon pictures (others, and myself, have noticed they are way too dark), and a way to keep the breeder's notes updated better (Dad needs it to be easy for him to do it on his own). Stay tuned.

The video stream is offline for the next few days, it will be back up and running on 1 Apr 2000. I've rethought my strategy, I'm nixing the streaming, and going to do a regular webcam. This should make the video much more accessable and much easier to use.
With our new internet provider comes new email addresses (which will work, yay!). Dave can be reached at dave@falconrybirds.com, and I can be reached at webmaster@falconrybirds.com.

Due to forces out of our control, we have lost our email address, birdsofprey@email.com, during the xoom.com/snap.com merger. PLEASE send your email from now on to dmancini@mailandnews.com. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Added more pictures of the buzzards and eurasian kestrels. New pictures of pied crows, spectacled owls, and mottled owls. Added information about using migratory birds, and flying lanner falcons. Added a testimonial page with comments of people hunting with our birds.
Weather here is horrible. We have gotten about 1 foot of snow, and now are getting sleet and freezing rain. Some birds needed to be moved inside, but otherwise we are doing fine. No school since last Tuesday (what a shame).
Oh, and FYI, we are now XHTML 1.0 Transitional compliant (for those of you that know what that means :). Thank you for HTMLTidy or I would never have gotten around to doing it.

Big update here, stay with me :) Be prepared for an uber-update in around 2 weeks. Expect more images, more explanations, and better navigation.
Eurasian or Common Buzzard
Our original female buzzard was successfully bred back to one of her male offspring after her mate died. At 3 years of age the male successfully bread and we raised 4 buzzards in 1999. However, even though both parents were of normal color (normal x dark morph), the young are all "blonde" with dark patches. Since all 4 offspring are blonde, the chances of this being caused by a recessive gene are slim. We would be very interested to hear from anyone who could give us insight onto this color morph, especially from our European friends out there :) See more pictures of the buzzards.
New Video Clip
Under the video section we have added a clip of a lanner falcon hatching. The clip is a little over 5 minutes long and represents the 12 minutes it took for the lanner to hatch. The only parts cut out were the times when the chick displayed no activity. We hope you will thuroughly enjoy it.
New Birds
This past year we have added the following pairs of new bird species: savanna haawks, augar buzzards, snowy owls, mottled owls, specticled owls, bat falcons, and pied crows. Only the bat falcons are a proven pair, but the others should breed soon (wish us luck!).
Production for Year 2000 Exotics
We are taking deposits for the following proven pairs of birds: lanner falcons, bat falcons, and European (common) buzzards. We can place people wishing other species of raptors on the waiting lists. Deposits will only be taken when we have fertile eggs.
Production for Year 2000 Migratory Raptors
We are taken deposits for the following proven pairs of birds: Harris' hawks, and Eurasian (common) kestrels. We can place people wishing other species of raptors on the waiting lists. Deposits will only be taken when we have fertile eggs.
Webpage Notes
I went through and cleaned up all the html. What a mess! I've added two new sections containing breeder notes, letting you see what's going on over here, and I will add a section of what birds are available for sale, along with a "testimonial" page with people who have flown our birds and enjoyed them. I will be adding some database qualities -- you would be able to see what is running on the live video feed, and would be able to get information about any of the birds we have, what has laid, etc. Very cool concept, I'm looking into it further. I'm looking at redoing navigation to make it a little easier and more efficient, we'll see what I can come up with. And I am trying to come up with a better way to display the bird pictures, I'm workin' on it!
