Barn owls can make good bird hawks, as they are
very fast and agile. Arizona falconers have had some success flying
barn owls on small birds. Careful attention must be paid to their
rearing up, they must be exposed to many people or they can become
extremely feral. Only a few states will allow falconers to use
other owls besides the great horned owl, even though federal
regulations permit the use of any owl species. For insight into
legal issues of using owls, see the legal
information page.
